Our Featured Pet...

SQUEAKY
"Hi, my name is Squeaky and I'm so happy it's my turn to be the featured pet for Lake Cumberland Animal Welfare League. I was abandoned at a very young age and a lady found me hiding in a drain pipe next to the road. I had a bad boo-boo to my throat that caused me not to be able to bark very well. My boo-boo is all better, but I still don't bark very loud. I promise I will be a good dog if you take me home. I like to be close by and like to be loved on. I'm a little shy, but I would be a good friend if you would give me the chance. Would you please think about making me part of your family? Thank you".

News

Lake Cumberland Animal Welfare League is in desperate need of foster homes for our dogs. If you live in either Adair or Russell counties and would be interested in volunteering, please contact us by telephone or email. There is an application and inspection to be completed before placing any dog in a foster home. We welcome new members and are very thankful for any assistance with our cause. Please think about how true the following quote by British poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge is... "The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous, is his dog." We at Lake Cumberland Animal Welfare League believe the most loyal, forgiving, unconditionally loving companion we can have is our dog. But we love cats, too!!

Who We Are

The Lake Cumberland Animal Welfare League is a non-profit, all volunteer organization. The League was created in 2000 by a group of concerned caring citizens because of the growing stray animal problem and the appalling conditions at the local animal "shelter". Volunteers work together to foster, give medical care, and find permanent loving homes for stray, mistreated and unwanted animals. Our funds come from donation jars, yard sales, ink cartridge recycling, membership dues, and individual donations. All donations are tax deductible. The members meet on the 3rd Monday of every month in Russell Springs, Kentucky. Please call for directions to our meeting place if you'd like to join us. WE WELCOME INQUIRIES FROM BREED SPECIFIC RESCUES!

Adopting a friend

The adoption procedure begins with the prospective adopter submitting an adoption application which can be obtained by calling 270-250-7171 or emailing us at luvnmutts@yahoo.com. The application will be reviewed and the inspection committee will visit the applicant's home for an interview. Arrangements can be made for the prospective adopter to visit their potential new family member at it's foster home to get acquainted. The adoption fee is *normally* $75.00 for dogs and $65.00 for cats which covers up-to-date vaccinations and the pet's spay or neuter. (*Sometimes there are animals that come to our organization that require additional medical care. In those cases we reserve the right to increase the adoption fee accordingly and this fee will be indicated on the pet's posting.*) LCAWL takes great care in making sure our dogs and cats are placed in a loving and safe environment. We will make every attempt to assist all who contact us and we will transport our pets (by vehicle only) within a reasonable distance, but applicants will be considered on qualifications not location. Thank you.
